IP Address Checker

Runs in your browser on this device.

Fetches your public IP from a third-party service when you run.

Fill in the fields and run.

Public IP in practice

Database admins whitelist office egress IPs; streaming APIs geo-gate by country. Confirming the address your traffic presents prevents “it works on my machine” firewall mysteries.

VPN and CGNAT

VPNs replace the visible IP with the provider’s exit node. Carrier-grade NAT shares one public IP among many mobile subscribers—allowlists may block innocent neighbors.

IPv4 versus IPv6

Dual-stack networks may show both. IPv6 addresses can be more specific to a device; ensure security groups accept the protocol you actually use.

Operational caution

Results depend on third-party network calls. Treat output as diagnostic, not authoritative legal proof of location or identity.

FAQ

Why does my IP differ from ipconfig?
ipconfig shows LAN addresses (192.168.x.x). The public IP is what your router NAT presents to the internet—what allowlists and geo services see.
Does this work offline?
No. Public IP detection queries external endpoints. Offline machines only reveal local interfaces through OS tools.
Can someone track me with my IP?
IPs reveal coarse location and ISP, not your name directly. They are identifiers routers need—not private secrets, but worth not broadcasting unnecessarily.
